To celebrate the 11th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, the "Belt and Road · Harmony in Diversity" Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition was grandly held. Ms. Gao Wei, a renowned female painter and Deputy Secretary-General of the Shenzhen Artists Association, participated as a guest artist. Her representative works Spring Sounds of Dong Village and Impressions of Qinling Mountains, with their distinctive style of "Emotional Fusion Landscape" became highlights of the exhibition, showcasing the innovative charm of contemporary Chinese ink art.
Gao Wei, pen-named "Huang Mao Ya Tou" (literally "Yellow-Haired Lass"), is a member of the China Artists Association and currently serves as the Resident Deputy Secretary-General of Shenzhen Artists Association. A graduate of the Craft Art Department at Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, she furthered her studies at Atlantic City College in the U.S. and undertook advanced training in Western art at New York's Spring Studio.
Blending Eastern and Western artistic traditions, her creative practice spans from craft design to ink landscape painting, ultimately developing her distinctive "Emotional Fusion Landscape" style. During 2022-2023, she held two major solo exhibitions at Shenzhen Art Museum and Guan Shanyue Art Museum—with her works now housed in prestigious institutions including Guangdong Museum of Art and Shenzhen Art Museum. In 2024, her masterpiece Spring Sounds of Dong Village was awarded the Gold Prize at the Paris Olympics International Art Exhibition (France), cementing her growing international acclaim.
At the exhibition, Ms. Gao Wei eloquently interpreted the magnificent landscapes and cultural richness of the Silk Road through her unique integration of traditional line-drawing techniques with contemporary compositional vocabulary.
The Vice Chairman of China Artists Association commented: "Her works not only capture the spiritual essence of Song and Yuan dynasty ink painting traditions, but also possess remarkable contemporary visual impact, representing exemplary achievements in the modern transformation of classical ink art." Her signature works featuring the distinctive "ink-and-color fusion" technique were exhibited simultaneously, attracting appreciative attention from cultural attaches of various embassies in China.
As Vice President of the Zhi Gong Party Painting and Calligraphy Academy, Ms. Gao Wei has consistently dedicated herself to promoting cross-cultural artistic exchanges. She remarked, "Ink art represents the living DNA of Chinese civilization. We must employ innovative brushwork language to narrate contemporary Silk Road stories."
The teaching compendium she edited, Instructional Masterworks from China's Prestigious Art Academies has been archived by dozens of authoritative institutions including the National Library of China, becoming a vital medium for advancing international exchanges in art education.
